Forza Motorsport’s latest update adds three cars, proximity radar (updated) (2024)

Forza Motorsport developers Turn 10 Studios have been listening to player feedback, it seems, and will finally implement a proximity radar and replay improvements. But, not yet.

Yes, while these two core features are part of ‘Update 10’ and ‘Update 10’ launches today on PC and Xbox Series X|S, they are absent. We presume then, that there is a ‘Update 10.5’ on the way soon.

For now, there is the following:

Three new cars

Compared to recent updates, fresh content seems a little light. There is no circuit this time, unlike Update 9’s Sebring, but at least the latest vehicles are free.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR from 1995 could be yours by partaking in a new single-player collection of events. The Nemesis Tour is focused on automotive rivalries, the ‘Evo’ paired against the existing 2005 Subaru Impreza.

Complete all four series within the Nemesis Tour and you will be gifted the second new car – the Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR from 1998. A hom*ologation special for the road that allowed Mercedes to compete at the pinnacle of sportscar racing.

Finally, complete six series in the Open Class Tour before 14th August to receive the third addition – the limited production run Lamborghini Reventón from 2008.

Gearshift FPS bug squashed

According to Microsoft, a fundamental error where gearshift times were different depending on the frame rate your device could output has been fixed.

Alongside this tweak, the graphical pop-up at both Catalunya and the Hockenheimring is said to have been reduced, AI’s pitlane merging refined and some game crashes prevented.

More wing, baby

18 cars now have the option of adding the giant ‘Big Country Labs’ rear wing. Not much more to say about that. It’s a wing, very much not a proximity radar.

Further events, challenges

As mentioned, this update’s theme is manufacturer rivalries. The featured Nemesis Tour has four sets of fresh single-player races starting today, 10th July until 29th August.

The Open Tour is also updated, with six new series – although henceforth, these will be shorter and include a wider range of car classes.

Online, in featured multiplier, the Forza GT Series has now been split into ‘GT2’ and ‘GT3’ class events. While the car class remains ‘Forza GT’, these two subdivisions should close up the field.

With some of Update 10 now live, we await the more fundamental changes with the second half of the patch at an unknown date. Update 11 is scheduled for ‘mid-August’ and will include another additional circuit.

Update to the update

Mercifully, after publishing that ‘Update 10’ for Forza Motorsport would be split into two downloads, in the end, it all arrived at once.

“After resolving an issue with today’s update, we will be releasing all features simultaneously in one download,” stated the Forza social media accounts.

“This will be rolling out later today.”

A messy scenario, with Microsoft even foreshadowing the split a day prior to the update’s unveiling.

Still, all jibes about the long-overdue proximity meter are now null and void and the full changelog is listed below.

Forza Motorsport Update 10 Changelog

  • Replay Mode: saved race replays now include a new vertical driver list to more easily select the car on focus, a new track map, HUD visibility options, and navigation improvements for mouse and keyboard users.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

PC

Developer’s Note:We have fixed an issue where shift times could be slightly different based on your PC’s FPS refresh rate. The Forza Motorsport community was extremely helpful in providing data that allowed us to home in on the problem. We had an issue in our code where our shifting state machine was not being updated in our inner-most simulation update code. We moved the shifting state machine to the inner-most (high frequency) part of our update, as well as ensuring that our high-frequency update is running at a consistent frequency across various framerates on PC. We were able to run automated benchmark code to time our cars 60-150MPH at various framerates and framerate ranges – with and without the fix – to validate the problem and the fix.

  • TheVRAM Estimatorin PC settings has been made much more accurate. Players should review their settings after Update 9 is downloaded to verify that they’re not using too much VRAM. This is particularly true for players with GPUs that have 4-8 GB of VRAM because some settings can push usage over the limit.
  • There is now an option todisable TAAcompletely on PC. This option is for players who prefer to use their own form of driver-level anti-aliasing. Find the new setting in the Display tab.
  • Fixed a bug allowing players on PCs with poor performance to gain a time advantage over other players [1803862].
  • An option to enable or disable Motion Blur in co*ckpit view has been added to the PC settings menu. [1723433]
  • Fixed an issue where the player is unable to reboot after changing their game settings using controller or keyboard. [1762936]

Hockenheim

  • Fixed an issue where the collision zone for a concrete barrier was misaligned.
  • Fixed several instances of objects popping into the player’s view across various areas of the track.
