<![CDATA[The Eagle-Tribune: Obituaries]]> (14)

Lawrence - Felipe Augustus Hernandez, 20, of Lawrence, MA, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024 after a lengthy and valiantly fought battle against depression and anxiety. Born on April 27, 2004, they were the son of Jorge and Katherine "Kate" (Lennon) Hernandez.Felipe was raised in Lawrence, MA and educated at St. Augustine's Andover and Central Catholic High School where they were a member of the cross country and swimming and diving teams. They had the sweetest, sensitive soul, loved nature, and gave the best hugs. Felipe looked to change the world for the better - all of it to be done through unconditional love. The world simply was not ready for this quiet and steadfast leader and for that we have lost an earthly presence of this advocate of love. Felipe gave grace to those who held different beliefs and acknowledged the importance of that diversity of thought. Felipe was an empath who felt everything deeply. The pain that they saw and experienced through others is what drove them to spread the message of unconditional love. Their personal experiences led them to use their talent for Chemistry and the social sciences to further their studies in psychology and pharmacy with the hope of helping others.Felipe was an avid theater participant and spent several summers performing at Advice to the Players Shakespeare camp in Sandwich, New Hampshire as well as Acting Out in Lawrence. In recent years, Felipe was a proud and active member of NAGLY, a LGBTQIA2S+ youth advocacy organization in the North Shore. They were a musician to their core, played piano and guitar and had a beautiful singing voice. Felipe was a fan of Pokemon, anime, Gorillaz, MCR, and was among the top 1% of Green Day fans on Spotify. They had a kind heart and valued inclusivity and acceptance. They gave of themselves fully to all through to the end, including in the leaving of their earthly body as an organ donor.Felipe will be dearly missed and is survived by their beloved parents, Jorge and Kate (Lennon) Hernandez of Lawrence, MA, loving brother, Alexander Hernandez of Lawrence, MA; grandparents, Richard and Eileen Lennon of Tamworth, NH, and Jose and Martha Hernandez of Inglewood, CA; as well as their aunts and uncles, Dan and Stacy Lennon of Carlisle, MA, and Ana and Roberto Rodriguez of Inglewood, CA. Felipe is also survived by their cousins, Augustus and Aoife Lennon, and Yamil, Aria, and Zaira Rodriguez; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives located throughout the United States and Mexico. Country life suited Paul, and he embraced farm chores and proved himself capable, responsible, and dedicated from an early age. He fondly recalled working in the fields and stables at Orcland Farms on Crane Neck Street. In 1961, while judging cows at the Topsfield Fair, Paul's attention was also on 4-H contestant Jacqueline Duchemin. <![CDATA[The Eagle-Tribune: Obituaries]]> (26)

Amesbury - Duncan Lowell Noyes, lifetime Amesbury resident and all around good guy, died surrounded by loved ones at the family homestead on July 2, 2024, at the age of 71.A 1970 graduate of AHS, Duncan always enjoyed the competition and camaraderie of sports and games. From playing first base on an undefeated Little League team to the many bowling leagues he joined in Florida, from learning cribbage and bridge in elementary school to marathon games of Mexican Train Dominoes and a national ranking as backgammon player, he got tremendous satisfaction from that intersection of competition and sociability.Duncan grew up along the Merrimack River, making it and the woods behind the house his playground. It was the realization of a dream, when, after his retirement, he was able to buy the property from his parents' estate, and spend the rest of his life living on and improving the property. After graduating cum laude from Amherst College in 1974, Duncan started his work life in banking. He very shortly got a job with Raytheon, working as a project planner in their missile systems program. During his career there he earned his MBA from Southern New Hampshire University. Wanting to spend more time with his wife, Bonnie, and wanting to travel while they both had their health, he joined her in retirement in 2007. They soon bought a condominium in Clearwater FL, and became snowbirds and started building a community of friends there. There is a saying "the first third of your life is for learning, the second third is for earning, and the last third is for returning." Duncan embodied this. He chose his charities carefully and gave generously. In retirement he served as a treasurer to numerous organizations, including St. James Episcopal Church, the Merrimack River Watershed Council, and the Salisbury Point Cemetery Association. And, he was a patriarch, giving counsel generously to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.Duncan was blessed to grow up in a stable, loving family. His parents, William H. and Eleanor L., and his siblings, Bart, Debbie, and Greg were the classic nuclear family. He took the lessons he learned there to the true passion project of his life, the family he and Bonnie created. Through the highs and lows of family, he met it head on with resolve, compassion, and clear-eyed realism. He always did his best.Duncan is survived by his siblings, his wife Bonnie, three children; Paul and wife Juli, Sherri, and Amanda and husband David, nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Jamie, and a great-granddaughter, Olivia.Calling hours at Paul Rogers Funeral Home in Amesbury, MA from 10 a.m.to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Service will follow at 12 p.m. Burial will be a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested for deposit only to The Salisbury Point Cemetery Association, Bankprov, 5 Market Street, Amesbury, MA 01913.

<![CDATA[The Eagle-Tribune: Obituaries]]> (47)

Naples - JoAnne P. Spencer, a long-time resident of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully with family by her side after a courageous nine-year battle with metastatic breast cancer on June 10, 2024. Despite the years of ongoing cancer treatment, she maintained her resolve, along with her warmth and smile, largely because she wanted to continue to be present in the lives of her loved ones and to enrich the life of anyone whom she met.JoAnne was born on March 23, 1947 to Rocco and Philomena D'Amato in Haverhill, MA.She graduated from Lesley College (now Lesley University) in 1969 and immediately began her career in the 1970's as an elementary school teacher in Massachusetts. The lessons she not only taught the students, but more importantly that she learned as a person during those years, she would later credit with much of her success in business and in life.Upon moving to Naples, FL with her previous husband, David Spencer, and after the birth of her only child, Eric, in 1979, she spent the first five years at home raising him. Once Eric began elementary school, JoAnne officially embarked on her real estate career as realtor at John R. Wood Realtors, where she would thrive for the next two decades. She infused her kindness and genuine interest in others into her role. So many of her clients from all over the world became close friends, and she was so proud of the level of success she achieved, but not nearly as proud as she was that she had positively impacted couples and families—as they built houses into homes and raised families.Even though JoAnne retired from working in real estate full-time in the early 2000's, she was far from done with being active and having an impact in the community. She volunteered for thousands of hours and for over a decade in the Cardiology department of the Naples Community Hospital (now Naples Comprehensive Health), where she was adored by the medical staff and patients. She was beloved by many because she was kind to everyone, remained humble, and showed genuine interest in their lives. She could make a family member feel like the most important person in the world, a friend feel like a close family member, and she could turn a complete stranger into almost an old friend in the span of minutes. And if there was a baby within a one-mile radius, you could bet that JoAnne was trying to make them smile and the mother feel special at the same time. She loved spending quality time with family and friends, long walks along the beautiful Naples beaches, and seemingly all entertainment related to the British monarchy. An avid reader, you could always find JoAnne at home no more than a few feet from her latest read (and often several at once). She always kept a calm, composed demeanor, except when the New England Patriots or Duke University's basketball team were playing important games—in which case she would nervously sit on the edge of her seat, the passion for those teams coursing through her veins, as she willed them to victory.Church attendance and aiding the church's ministries were always a priority in her life. In her first two decades in Naples, she was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and in the more recent years she was actively involved at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bonita Springs, FL.JoAnne embodied what it means to live in the present moment each day and to lovingly put others before herself—picking up the spirits of anyone around her.She is survived by her son, Eric Spencer, of Naples, FL; her sister, Anita D'Amato, of Salisbury Beach, MA; step-daughters Kristin Cassidy (Scott) and Marcy Hesseling (Ryan) of Pensacola, FL; sister-in-law, Nancy Eberhardt (Eric) of Naples; brother-in-law, Dan Norris (Kathy) of Marietta, GA, in addition to extended family members and loved ones in both the United States and Italy. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Ted Norris of Naples, and her parents, Rocco D'Amato and Philomena D'Amato of Salisbury Beach, MA.From the all-time classic novel and one of JoAnne's personal favorites, The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran:"In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed."A celebration of JoAnne's life is being planned in Naples, FL with a likely date in early September—with more details to follow. There will also be a private family ceremony in Massachusetts later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please see the donation information below for a favorite organization of JoAnne's, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - https://www.stjude.org.

<![CDATA[The Eagle-Tribune: Obituaries]]> (50)

Andover - Mrs. Antoinette E. (DeVellis) Lord, a longtime resident of Andover, Massachusetts, beloved wife of Robert H. Lord and mother of Robert M. Lord and his wife Laura, and loving sister of Thomas DeVellis and his wife Patricia, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024. She was 78 years old.Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on May 23, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Balzano) DeVellis. Annette was the first member of her family to go to college, graduating from Boston State College and later earning her master's degree in education from Lesley College. Her dedication to education was a lifelong commitment, teaching for more than two decades at Bancroft Elementary School in Andover and prior to that the Morse School in Cambridge. Known for her firm yet compassionate approach, Annette touched the lives of countless students throughout her career and left a lasting impact on all who learned from her.Along with teaching her students, raising her son Bobby, and making sure that there was never a single piece of dirty laundry in the hamper or so much as a lone fingerprint on the refrigerator, principal among Annette's many joys was traveling with her family. In 1988, she brought her mother to Naples, Italy, which marked the first time Mary had been back to her native country since emigrating to the United States in 1933 as a 12-year-old.In the later years of her life, Annette, her husband, son, daughter-in-law, brother, and sister-in-law spent a substantial amount of time traveling in Europe, the United States, and Mexico, visiting the places she had always dreamed of as a child. On these trips, she never hesitated to demand that the hotel be moved a bit to the left or the right, depending on conditions at the time. She holds an unofficial record for successful replacement requests from hotel and property management, including four refrigerators, dozens of lamps, pillows, linens, and dishes, and countless hair dryers. She was a deeply loving mother to her son, and this devotion extended to Laura, whom she regarded as her own daughter. Annette was fond of saying to Bobby and Laura that "what's mine is mine, what's yours is yours, and what's Daddy's is ours."Her dedication to her son was such that she successfully completed overdubbing handclaps on a track for one of Bobby's musical groups, hitting beats 2 and 4 effortlessly throughout the piece. Her husband, unable to do so, was summarily fired from the recording session.Besides her beloved husband, son, daughter-in-law, brother, and sister-in-law, she is survived by her sister Cecelia Hender and nephew Jeffrey Hender, his wife Christine, and her great-niece Adeline. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Grace Firth, brother-in-law George Firth, brother-in-law Stephen Hender, mother-in-law Mary F. Lord, and father-in-law Edward C. Lord. She was also predeceased by her former aide-de-camp, Mr. Giovanni of Sorrento, Italy, a manager at the Parco dei Principi hotel whose demise was undoubtedly hastened by Annette's frequent visits.Annette will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, teacher, and friend.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024, in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.
